Temporary restraining order provides for 14-day legal challenge.
In his first days in office, President Biden issued an executive order to halt the deportation of certain immigrants for a 100-day period. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on Friday filed suit against the president’s administration, saying the state would face irreparable harm if the deportation freeze was allowed to go into effect. Paxton said it would increase costs for education and healthcare as more immigrants remained in Texas illegally.
On Tuesday U.S. District Judge Drew Tipton in the Southern District of Texas issued a temporary restraining order that blocks the policy nationwide for 14 days.
The administration is expected to appeal the ruling that has halted the policy while both sides submit briefs on the matter.
